Blockchain technology is accelerating the low-carbon transformation of China’s traditional industries. The Hangzhou Bay Shangyu Economic and Technological Development Zone, the country’s largest production hub for dispersed dyes, a key component in the textile and chemical industries. However, as the industrial park expands, environmental challenges have emerged—rising governance costs, stricter regulatory penalties, increasing pollution compensation, and declining corporate credit ratings—making energy structure optimization and carbon emission management an urgent necessity.
Amid China’s “Dual Carbon” goals (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality), the government has implemented strict carbon emission planning and green transformation policies for industrial parks. Yet, due to the inherent difficulty in directly monitoring carbon emissions, carbon assets must be calculated based on data-driven estimations under the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) framework, making it highly compatible with blockchain’s capabilities in verifiable data recording and transparent tracking.
To enable more precise carbon management, Hyperchain Technology developed and deployed the Industrial ParkCarbon Trading and Management Platform. This platform leverages blockchain-based data anchoring to prevent tampering, ensuring data authenticity and integrity. It also integrates privacy-preserving computing to facilitate multi-party verification of emission reports, enhancing transparency and credibility. Additionally, by streamlining verification and auditing processes, the platform reduces compliance costs and improves the efficiency of carbon asset transactions.
As of today, the platform has onboarded over 200 large-scale enterprises within the industrial park. In just three months after launch, it has facilitated the recycling of over 26,000 tons of hazardous waste, reduced 2,700 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, generated 3,900 tons of emission reductions, and saved enterprises over $12 million in operational costs. In recognition of its exceptional contributions to carbon reduction, the park was selected by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment as one of the first national pilot zones for pollution and carbon reduction, serving as a model for replication nationwide.
As a proud member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we’re committed to putting innovation to work for the planet. Our goal is simple: scale proven green tech solutions from China to the world—because the climate can’t wait.
